About us

We are embarking on a major project to build a new state-of-the-art therapy pool. To build this we need to raise over £1million.

Diverse Abilities is Dorset’s only charity providing a lifetime of support for children and adults living with profound and complex physical and learning disabilities. Without the charity’s support, families would have little help in coping with the challenges they face.

We provide a specialist school, children’s respite home, family and sibling support, and weekend and holiday play clubs. For adults, the charity provides 24/7 support in adapted homes, a respite service, and an activity and therapy centre called The Beehive. Diverse Abilities also offers an advice service for families struggling with benefits or issues around disability.

“The NICE guidelines have physiotherapy at their core for management of spasticity. Despite the fact that young adults have finished growing, the neurology of their disease will continue to make their life difficult. Physiotherapy input is still needed in adult life to prevent deformity, promote strength, prevent pain, and maximise independence.”
